3rd Darwin Day - 12 February, 2022

Date start

Third edition of this day in which we commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin with a conference related to the universe of the author of the "Origin of Species". This year we are honored to have science popularizer Clara Grima, professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Sevilla, who will speak on Mathematics and Evolution.

The theory of evolution, like any scientific theory, admits quantitative formulations in many aspects and lends itself, of course, to an attempt at mathematical modelling. In that sense, we can say that mathematics helps us understand human evolution. And backwards. Mathematics has copied nature and its evolutionary mechanisms in the design of algorithms that efficiently solve everyday problems. Amazing, right?

This event is to to continue promoting the creation of a culture of evolution among the population, one of the main objectives of the CENIEH UCC+I.
